I love a hotel that has character.
This hotel is beautiful and is worth every penny it will cost you to stay. It’s old; the character is well worth your time to sit back, relax, enjoy yourself.
The rooms were immaculate, clean... you could eat from the floor! The room had a wonderful smell to it, the sort that reminds you of a pleasant visit with your grandparents, perhaps.
The breakfast was delightful, the coffee strong and chewy, if you’ll forgive the expression. It has a charm you’ll not find in a big-city, high-priced, plastic, in-and-Quickly out type of residence. You may not have all the latest amenities, but it’s quiet, very clean, private and relaxing.
Worth the extra time to drive there.

Located 15 minutes from Nantucket Whale Inn, Filoli is a historic site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Visitors are welcome to explore the house, gardens, exhibits, trails, shop, cafe and more!
Designed between 1915 – 1917 and set against the dramatic backdrop of the northern Santa Cruz Mountains in Woodside, California, Filoli is an excellent example of the Golden Age of American garden design and country house architecture.
Opened to the public in 1976 as a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Filoli features a 54,000 sq. ft. home and a 16 acre English Renaissance Garden. In addition, Filoli’s property includes a 6.8 acre Heritage Orchard and a trail system with guided nature hikes and visits to the Sally MacBride Nature Center.
Today, Filoli is recognized as one of the finest remaining country estates and is a cherished resource for the community valuing education, volunteerism and diversity.
